CONGRATULATIONS– You’re getting married!
Hopefully by now you have your date, estimated guest count, dress, venue, food & drink all set! Those items are where the bulk of your wedding budget should go, which means you’ll have a better idea of what you can or want to spend on all the extras.
Extra? What do you mean?! Florals are REQUIRED!
In truth, they aren’t. The only things “required” are you and your fiancé… and maybe 1 bridal bouquet & boutonniere.
BUT …Wedding florals do add some extra magic to the day. Photos look more glamorous and special, guests have easy conversation pieces, and it is a chance to express you as a couple.
Should I DIY flowers for my wedding in Miami?
You 100% can. Find some inspo online, design the floral recipe, practice ahead of the wedding, and make sure to order all your supplies, backup supplies, and flowers ahead of time. All you need the week of your event is time and space to prep & arrange each piece, cool storage, and transportation to securely deliver the flowers to your venue the morning of. As long as you have free hands to help you set out the flowers and extra supplies to fix any problems along the way – you will have a beautiful event!
Is it worth hiring a florist? As a former Miami bride (2025), who did her own wedding florals, YES. The reality is on your wedding day, you will only want to be thinking about one thing – getting married. Not the droopy ranunculus that needs to be re-wired in a bud vase or the boutonniere that is missing a ribbon.
But I have a small budget and/or a large party – what do I do?
#1 Set realistic expectations
#2 Be flexible
#3 Keep open and honest communication with your florist
The reality is a skilled floral designer can put together a beautiful display of flowers on a budget by using economic blooms, reuseable/multi-purpose components, and a little imagination.
